Play Omaha Poker with Bitcoin

In the world of Bitcoin poker, Texas Hold’em tends to take the headlines. There’s a smaller, yet not insignificant, number of people who really enjoy playing Bitcoin Omaha poker though – a variation of the game that still uses the same hand rankings as Texas Hold’em, but that has many differences. The biggest difference is this though: players receive four hole cards, and they then must use exactly two of these, in combination with three of the five community cards, in order to make their hand. The goal is to make the best (or, in some cases, worst) hand possible. Show more

Due to the name of the game, you might think that the game originated in Nebraska, back in the days of the Wild West. You might therefore be surprised to hear that this game wasn’t actually invented until the 1980s, when it was introduced to players at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas. This means that, compared to other versions of poker, Omaha is extremely young. Despite its age, it is now the second most popular type of poker played in online and land-based casinos.

The rules of Omaha are quite easy to grasp. Each player is dealt four hole cards, which only they can see. After a round of betting, the first three community cards are dealt. Another round of betting then ensues. Then two more cards are dealt, with a betting round inserted in between these two cards. A final round of betting then takes place after the final card has been placed on the table. The player with the best hand, using exactly two hole cards and three community cards, then wins. In Omaha Hi/Lo, the players with the highest and lowest hands split the pot evenly. Because a player can submit hands for both the Hi and Lo sections of the pot though, it is possible for one player to win both parts of the pot in Bitcoin Omaha Hi/Lo. Show less

Bitcoin Omaha Poker Sites

Bitcoin Omaha poker can be played at many different Bitcoin poker sites, although player numbers aren’t as high as they are when playing Bitcoin Texas Hold’em. It still shouldn’t take too long for you to find a table though, especially if you play at one of our top Bitcoin Omaha sites, which we’ve listed below:

  • Betcoin. We think that Betcoin is one of the best all-round Bitcoin gambling sites, and its poker section is particularly good. Omaha players will find plenty to interest them at Betcoin, and the games come at a variety of different stakes.
  • America’s Cardroom. America’s Cardroom is perhaps the most famous Bitcoin poker site in the world. The fact that America’s Cardroom is so well-known means that there are plenty of players, a number of whom choose to play Bitcoin Omaha poker.
  • Nitrogen Sports. This might be a site more focussed on sportsbetting, however it also offers a really good online poker platform. They offer many tournaments for Omaha players, as well as a number of different cash games.

Make sure you check back here regularly though, as our top Omaha sites could change, as we review new and exciting sites that appear in the Bitcoin gambling world.

Bitcoin Omaha Poker Variations

Omaha has a few different variations, however the two most popular are standard Omaha, which has been described earlier in this page, and Omaha Hi/Lo. In Omaha Hi/Lo, players have the chance to win even if they have a poor hand. This is because the pot is split in two, with half going to the best hand, and half going to the worst, providing the worst hand qualifies for the pot.

The most common type of Bitcoin Omaha Hi/Lo is Omaha Hi/Lo Split-8 or Better. In this form of the game, a hand qualifies for the Lo part of the pot if it is 8-7-6-5-4 or less. Omaha Hi-Lo follows the same rules as standard Omaha, in that players must use two cards from their hand, and three from the board. Omaha Hi/Lo is a more complex form of the game, so new players are advised to start with standard Omaha, before then moving onto Omaha Hi-Lo when they’ve become more confident in their playing.

Omaha Poker Strategy

Bitcoin Omaha is a game filled with strategy, so it would be impossible to provide a full rundown on this page. There are some basic things to remember when you start playing, and the first is this: if you haven’t played Omaha before, it can be confusing, so make sure you play at the lowest stakes (or using play money), until you’ve managed to understand the rules properly. This is even more important when playing Omaha Hi/Lo, as it’s a more complicated version of the game.

Also, don’t be tempted to spend all your money in one sitting – instead, use bankroll management. Different people have different ideas surrounding bankroll management, however a good rule of thumb is to only ever put 10% of your total bankroll on the table. By doing so, you’ll always ensure that you have money left over for another day, should you find yourself on a poor streak. Also, take regular breaks from the game, as Bitcoin Omaha requires a lot of concentration.
